Technical comparison: DOGTECH versus other manufacturers
| Feature / Condition | DOGTECH Protective Vest | Other manufacturers on the market |
|---|---|---|
| Wild boar protection & Repairability | Technical fibers with replaceable protective layers – easy to replace in case of damage | Often good materials (e.g., Dyneema/aramid), but sewn-in construction where damage requires the entire vest to be discarded or expensive repairs. |
| Manufacturing & Origin | Manufactured in Sweden (7 standard sizes + free local custom tailoring) | Mostly mass-produced in Pakistan or China; a few custom-made in Sweden |
| Predator protection (Wolf steel) | The original: Further developed wolf steel with optimized damping, lower weight, and free movement | Sell direct blueprints of DOGTECH's previous generation wolf steel |
| Subsidies from the County Administrative Board | Original approved standard: Up to 50% subsidy for ONE with wolf steel, Wolf, and Wolf Mesh | Approved only because they use copies of DOGTECH's previous wolf steel |
| Puppy guarantee | Yes: Free size exchange via exchange program within 1 year as the dog grows | Not included; requires new purchase at full price when the dog grows out of the vest |
| Fit & Custom tailoring | 7 sizes + free restitching, lengthening, shortening, or adjustments in Sweden | Only fixed standard sizes without adjustment options, or only expensive custom-ordered models |
| Flotation units for water safety | Always included as standard in the DOGTECH ONE base vest | Sold as separate add-ons or completely missing |
| Experience & Testing | Development since 2005; products tested in the field and by SLU and FACE | Shorter history based on subsequent replication |
Questions and answers about DOGTECH protective vests
1. Why should I choose a protective vest from DOGTECH over other brands?
DOGTECH combines Swedish manufacturing and replaceable protective layers with a puppy guarantee, free custom tailoring, and integrated flotation units.
Since 2005, we have developed and sewn technical protective equipment in Sweden in close cooperation with hunters and tracking dog handlers. By providing equipment for independent documentation and tests at, among others, SLU and FACE, we ensure that our products withstand the toughest stresses in the field.
2. What happens if the wild boar protection is damaged during a hunt?
At DOGTECH, the wild boar protection is modular and replaceable, meaning you do not have to buy an entirely new vest if the dog takes a hit from wild boar tusks.
Many manufacturers on the market use good protective materials such as Dyneema or aramid but sew the layers permanently into the vest. If the protection is punctured or deformed, the entire vest must therefore be discarded. At DOGTECH, the damaged protective element can be easily removed and replaced with a new one in our Swedish workshop, which provides superior longevity and excellent operating economy.
3. Where are DOGTECH protective vests manufactured and what does that mean for quality?
All products from DOGTECH are manufactured in Sweden with strict quality control and short lead times for adjustments and service.
Unlike most other brands on the market, which move their sewing and production to low-cost countries like Pakistan or China, DOGTECH keeps all manufacturing in Sweden. While the few other players with Swedish sewing focus only on purely custom-made vests, DOGTECH offers 7 ready-made standard sizes for quick delivery, combined with the possibility of free local custom tailoring in our Swedish sewing workshop if needed.
4. How does DOGTECH relate to competitors' wolf protection and the County Administrative Board's subsidies?
DOGTECH is the original inventor of wolf steel. It is our original innovation that forms the basis for why competitors' vests today can be approved for subsidies.
When competitors on the market chose to manufacture direct blueprints of our previous wolf steel, it opened up the possibility for their customers to apply for predator subsidies via the County Administrative Board based on our proven principle. At the same time, DOGTECH further developed and improved its wolf steel with optimized spring dynamics, better shock absorption, and lower weight. At DOGTECH, you buy the latest generation of original protection, not a copy of yesterday's model.
5. How much can I get in subsidies from the County Administrative Board for a DOGTECH vest?
You can get back up to 50 percent of the cost of approved DOGTECH models when hunting in wolf territories.
DOGTECH ONE with wolf steel as well as DOGTECH Wolf and Wolf Mesh meet the County Administrative Board's requirements for the prevention of predator attacks. Dog owners active in affected areas can apply for subsidies directly from their local County Administrative Board.
6. What does DOGTECH's puppy guarantee mean?
If your dog outgrows its protective vest within one year of purchase, we will exchange it for a larger size through our exchange program.
We want young dogs to hunt safely from the first release without the owner hesitating due to the cost of a vest that the dog quickly grows out of. Primarily, we exchange for a inspected, reconditioned vest in fine condition in the next size. If we do not have the right size in our exchange stock, we will replace it with a brand new vest.
7. What do I do if my dog does not fit into the standard sizes?
We offer 7 standard sizes and perform completely free custom tailoring and restitching in Sweden if your dog has unique proportions.
If a vest needs to be shortened, lengthened, or provided with special cutouts for the shoulder or groin, our seamstresses will adjust the vest for you at no extra cost, so your dog gets maximum protection and full ergonomic freedom of movement without long waiting times.
8. Are flotation units included in the DOGTECH ONE base vest?
Yes, flotation units are always included as standard in the DOGTECH ONE base vest and are not an accessory that needs to be purchased separately.
The flotation units are integrated into the construction to give the dog immediate buoyancy in case of unexpected falls into water, swimming across watercourses, or working in marshy terrain, while simultaneously contributing to shock absorption against mechanical impacts.
